Last Thursday in Mexico City, the official announcement of “Hope of Fire in Monterrey” was made which marks the return of the three divisional world champion Erik “Terrible” Morales when he faces former lightweight champion Jose Alfaro of Nicaragua on March 27th at the Arena Monterrey in the aforementioned Mexican city.

Alfaro made it clear that he was not intimidated by Morales, his record or the pro-Morales amassed media.

“Morales is finished, the best is behind him, he was great but not anymore,” Alfaro stated confidently. “I am younger than he is, I am stronger and faster. I am going to prove it on March 27th in Monterrey. Morales made a mistake choosing me if he wants to continue in boxing.”

“I am stepping into the ring with the will to win, I am not coming back to prove anything to anybody, that I have said before,” Morales, who hails from the rough and tumble Zona Norte of Tijuana, stated. “In my plans is a fourth world title. On the 27th of March I am going to climb into the ring to show my respect to the fans who are the ones I fight for. We chose Alfaro for my return fight because we respect the fight fans and we know he is going to be a tough opponent but that is why I am preparing myself. If the fans think after this fight I shouldn’t continue, then I won’t, that is decided.”

  1. i was always a big fan of el terrible but surely he cant need the cash?he is loved im mexico akin to the love pele has in brazil, keep away eric you gave us many great fights but i think ,you never were fast for a small guy just very durable, durability goes with hard fights and father time,i dont wanna see my favourite boxer end up a stepping stone for some punk kid whose only claim to fame was to beat a shell of a true legend,it happened to ali v holmes and berbick,in the ring you wont be spared, enjoy your retirement eric and if you do win enjoy that magic moment and absorb the atmosphere and the adulation of the crowd and walk away a man,not a injured ex champ
