The Puerto Rican Eric Morel better take note: The Mexican Fernando Montiel will not give up his WBO bantamweight title he recently one in Tijuana, MX, last week, this according to the PrimeraHora.com.

“It will be an interesting fight,” Montiel said in a phone interview from Los Mochis, MX.
“Morel is a high quality fighter who is very defensive and he is always well prepared,” he added.

The fighters have a tentative scheduled fight for June 13th at Madison Square Garden in New York City on the under card of Cotto-Clottey.

Morel mentioned that he planned to avenge the loss Jose “Carita” Lopez suffered at the hands of Montiel back in September of 2001.
“I am glad he thinks that way, but it is easier said than done.  By him saying those things I am sure we will both prepare correctly and there will be no excuses and we can give the fans a great show,” Montiel commented.

For Montiel, 30, this will be his first appearance at the mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden and although “KOchulito would prefer for the bout to take place in Mexico, he stated:

“To fight in New York City is what every fighter wants and what better place to have this fight.  It will be another classic battle between Mexico and Puerto Rico so we will see each other in the ring,” Montiel (39-2-1, 29KO) shared.

Morel is the WBO #2 ranked fighter and is coming off a win over Roberto Bonilla of Nicaragua.
