Champs Square Off September 12!

Former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson will be facing ex-world champ Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round “Frontline Battle” exhibition taking place on Saturday, September 12, 2020 in Southern California. The event is presented by Mike Tyson’s new Legends Only League and the bout will air live on Pay-Per-View (PPV) and the multi-media platform Triller. There will also be a docuseries leading up to the showdown.

In their glory days, Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) was known as the “Baddest Man on the Planet” and Jones (66-9, 47 KOs) won titles in four weight divisions. Tyson last fought in 2005; Jones in 2018 at cruiserweight. And now in 2020, the pair is planning to lock horns this fall!

“Iron” Mike is now 54 and RJJ is 51 and ready to prove there’s some gas left in the tank. Will you watch this battle scheduled to blast off at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California?

Sports took a big hit after COVID-19 exploded and boxing is now becoming more frequent with live fights taking place once again (under strict health guidelines and precautions). The promoters say the matchup has been sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC); the buzz about these two veteran warriors facing off has kept social media trending. Some people are aghast that these two are lacing up again (and against each other) while others are intrigued and say they can’t wait to watch these two gladiators go toe to toe. The price of the PPV will be revealed soon.

The two men have been in the spotlight for decades; they know how to generate the big buzz. And the Mike Tyson comeback chatter first began in April as video was shared of the heavyweight looking in shape and showing off his skills in the gym. And he’s also taking on another formidable opponent on August 9 in “Rumble in the Reef”–Tyson will go head to head against a shark for (yep, you guessed it) Discovery Channel’s annual “Shark Week” viewing party.

So it will be the Brooklyn slugger versus the Pensacola boxer. “Everything is on the line…” is the catchphrase but what will the eight rounds showcase? Will this turn-back-the-clock bash satisfy the fans around the world? Will it entertain the masses around the globe?

No doubt people will continue to talk about this fight against two beloved champions. In the fight game, there are plenty of mismatches so no matter what happens, the keyboard warriors will probably debate for days. Will this be a one-sided affair, a 50-50 fight or a knockout by one of the two living legends?

The majority of the social media world thinks that Tyson will take the victory come September 12, but there are also a few that say Roy will get the win. And we must remember, it IS an exhibition…so it could be a glorified sparring session, albeit one that is fun to watch? It will definitely be an ’80s and ’90s throwback!

I think people will tune in to watch this Tyson-Jones clash because of the curiosity factor alone. The sight of the duo trading leather (even at age 54 and 51) may prove irresistible to fans who watched them in their prime and for viewers who want to see what all the fuss is about? There will be an undercard and musical guests during the three-hour broadcast. Tyson’s new business venture will not only feature the sport of boxing, the company plans on bringing other athletes into the fold.

As the Legends Only League says: “The world’s greatest athletes coming together in epic clashes of will. Inside every athlete, there is a drive to continue on, to fight, and to never give up. Legends Only League brings the best of the best back into the ring, onto the court, and back on the field. Because talent, skill, and the drive to compete never go away.”

It’s all going down September 12!
