Mike Garcia (25-0, 21KOs) captured the NABF and NABO featherweight titles with an impressive one-sided tenth round stoppage of previously undefeated Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (23-1, 13 KOs) on Saturday night from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Garcia dropped Remillard twice in round nine and again in the tenth. Garcia immediately pressed the attack with series of heavy shots. The fight was stopped after round ten when Remillard’s corner man Mike Skowronski had seen enough and stopped the fight.
Well, yes, he could’ve won a bit quicker but he’s still tender and he was completely dominant. Give him time, maybe 2 or 3 more fights and I believe we’ll see a young fighter on the verge bigger and better things.
Garcia won but hardly looked impressive. He could have ended the fight a lot sooner.
This fight went basically as I expected and this youngster continues to impress me. Sure one can say that Remmilard was an over hyped product BUT, without a doubt, I believe Mickey Garcia is THAT GOOD regardless. Looking forward to see him again and… again!
I like this kid he stood patient the whole fight and looks to know when to step on the gas most of the time. He was a little too patient in my eyes though maybe cuz I figured being on HBO he would have wanted to make a big impression by stopping Remillard earlier in the fight. I say if Garcia cleans up his defense a little more he’s going to be trouble.
