Miguel Cotto kicks Bob Arum in the balls!

We all know Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions are two of the biggest boxing promoters in the game and they highly compete against each other.

It’s no secret Golden Boy tried to sign Manny Pacquiao out from their rival Top Rank by getting his signature on a seven-fight contract during a secret dinner at an L.A. steakhouse back in 2006 in which Oscar De La Hoya tried to reel in Pacquiao with a briefcase full of money, $300,000 to be exact, to serve as a signing bonus.

At the end Pacquiao, never fought for Golden Boy and ended up signing with Top Rank days later.

In July 2009, Oscar De La Hoya also tried to get Miguel Cotto to sign under Golden Boy Promotions during a friendly game of golf in the Majestic Bahia beach Resort & golf club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, but it didn’t happen.

Now, Oscar De La Hoya has a new plan up his sleeve. He has joined forces with Miguel Cotto to present Solo Boxeo Tecate in Puerto Rico. Former World Champion, Miguel Cotto announced today the strategic alliance with Oscar de la Hoya in order to move boxing forward in Puerto Rico to the next level. The alliance between Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions is already up and running. Their first “Solo Boxeo Tecate” show, aired by Telefutura, will take place on June 4th, in Juncos, Puerto Rico.

I guess if a suitcase full of money didn’t work the first time plan B is to make him your business partner, build a relationship then reel him in. I guess its no surprise what Miguel Cotto is doing, he never liked Bob Arum especially after Arum leaned towards helping out Antonio Margarito.

This shows how loyal Miguel Cotto can be. Cotto on the verge of headlining Top Rank’s June 5 Yankee Stadium card in his challenge of WBA junior middleweight champ and rabbi Yuri Foreman has made a promotional deal with Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy.

How do you think Bob Arum feels about his own fighter now working with Golden Boy and against his crew?

“I don’t know or care how Cotto can do that when he’s fighting Yuri on June 5 in New York but that is his problem,” Bob Arum told Michael Marley today.

You know Bob Arum cares but this is how you pay back someone after all those years, all those lucrative fights he got you, all the money he made and after he created you? You turn around and join forces with his biggest competitor.

Do you think what Miguel Cotto did was a kick in the balls?

  1. Edgar is obviously a Cotto hater. This is the third article or him speaking badly or doubting Cotto. Cotto is the one putting asses in seats and making people buy PPVs Bob arum is a blood sucking promoter that depends on the fighters to earn some money.

Arum didnt made Cotto, he earned what he has by being a tough, aggressive and entertaining fighter.

If your chance to grow and build something for the future lies elsewhere you gotta move on and think of the wellbeing of your family and yourself. He is also doing something that benefits the boxers of Puerto Rico and thats a bigger feat in itself.

  2. That’s not true. No news around here in the Philippines that the People’s Champ will be fighting in another division or to have a rematch with Cotto. Pacman is very busy with his new endeavor right now. There’s a rumor that he’ll might be fighting in November but no opponent has been named yet.

  3. by the way i dont know if its true but if cotto wins bob wants to have him fight pacman again in the 154 division so that pacman may have the chance to break the record at 8.. is this true??? anybody??

  4. about time. cotto is a smart boxer and bob well i think is dirty. these young fighters have alot of talent and cotto wants to help them and he should.

  5. Cotto has plans on his own. He knows he will not be able to fight that long. This is a good plan and would be beneficial to his homeland. Nice job Miguel!

  6. Well… Cotto is about 30 years old and winding down his fighting career. Arum is over 80 or so and winding down his life. As a promoter Cotto’s already has a stable of young prospects and it’s obvious that his future is NOT with Arum, The Bobfather wants no partners and has never been known share promotions unless he absolutely has to or if he has plenty to gain.

Let’s look at this objectively…. If Cotto loses against Foreman… maybe Arum won’t kick him in the balls but probably WILL kick him in the ass and right out of Top Rank. Right?

So… since this is all about BUSINESS.. this was a wise BUSINESS decision on Cotto’s part. As a promoter Miguel has a future ahead of him. Arum?? FACT: Bob’s days as a promoter are numbered. FACT: Cotto and Oscar have plenty of promotional years ahead.

A kick?? hmmm…. I guess that all depends who’s doing the kicking and WHO’S ass or balls are on the receiving end.

Ahhhhh… And if that’s the case then….. didn’t Oscar and Floyd kick Bob in the balls already?? Both accused The Bobfather of being a “Greedy Control Freak”. In turn, Arum accused them of being a pair of ingrates because he made them alot of money. But… didn’t THEY make ALOT of money for Arum while THEY were the ones actually getting hit??

    hmmmm… Think about it. Peace!!

  7. Is not proven that margarito do anything in the cotto fight so get off his balls!..
He did gave him the best punishment of his life thou lol.

  8. Bob Arum knowingly protects and promotes Antonio Margarito after what he did to Cotto and people are surprised that Cotto is looking elsewhere? He could have been killed by Margarito. And then he put him in the ring with Pacquiao (who is a probable juicer)? Arum showed that he genuinely does not give a crap about Cotto. No one should criticize Cotto for this.
