Miguel Cotto will sit out the rest of 2010 and return next year. Top rank promoter Bob Arum had been trying to put together a Dec. 4 pay-per-view fight between Cotto — who would have been making the first defense of the 154-pound belt that he won by knocking out Yuri Foreman in June at Yankee Stadium.

Cotto did not find the possible alternatives — Kermit Cintron or Vanes Martirosyan — all that appealing. Cotto also had shoulder surgery in August, so the time just seemed right for him to take a break, Arum said.

“So Cotto is not fighting the rest of the year and will just wait until next year to fight,” Arum said.

The Top Rank PPV Latin Fury card will go on for Dec. 4, probably from The Pond in Anaheim and will feature Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. as the main event.

  1. To be honest to with ,I think Cotto should retire.
He is not an interesting fighter to watch .He doesn’t have the aggressiveness and the way he fights is so boring .

  2. It’s only fair to Cotto and the fans for him to be fully recovered. I wish him well and look forward to seeing him in 2011.

  3. Thats to bad, But I had a feeling Arum wouldnt be able to find a good replacement for chaves. It sucks for the fans but I think its a well needed rest for cotto.
