Miguel Cotto

Miguel Cotto works out in Orlando, Florida during media day for his upcoming highly-anticipated World Championship rematch against Antonio Margarito, Saturday, December 3, scheduled for Madison Square Garden in New York.

Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs) and Cotto (36-2, 29 KOs) first met in 2008 in what turned out to be a tremendous action fight. Margarito came on strong in the later rounds and stopped Puerto Rico’s Cotto in the 11th round of a bloody battle, taking his welterweight belt at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Because Margarito was caught trying to fight Mosley with loaded hand wraps in his next fight, and had administered significant facial damage to Cotto in the later rounds, many suspected he had gotten away with wearing illegal hand wraps, making the Dec. 3 fight a much-anticipated grudge rematch.

  1. Yes, Margarito landed all of those power punches, after Miguel Cotto got tired of outpointing him, throughout approximately 7 rounds. Margarito can only make contact, when he has people on the ropes. Look at their first fight. Every time he had Cotto on the ropes, he would have this look on his face, as if to say, “I got you now”. If Cotto keeps it in the middle of the ring and slips out of the ropes, as he strikes, he should win. Endurance, Margarito, Superior fighter, Miguel Cotto.

  2. Margacheato knows deep down inside that he will not defeat Cotto this time around! Its too late his in it deep now! We have a saying in Spanish ” el que la hace la paga”! Time for just desserts – Eat hearty! Watch that eye margacheato ooomph! Its murder she wrote! TIMES UP!

  3. Cotto seems to have enough left to challenge for another world title try, though I doubt that he can accomplish that feat now. As for Margarito, this will be his last fight to garner so much attention.

  4. @MexicanMafia,
I wasn’t comparing any fights.I made no mention of the December 3 fight. I merely pointed out a compubox stat. I’m sorry you misunderstood.

  5. Cotto looks like is back to his old self when boxing was the only thing that mattered to him …I’ve watched all his fight from when he turned pro …he is going to stomp on margecheato …and bust up that eye and when by knock out …he is going to teach margecheato …that cheaters never prosper …GO COTTO….

You cant compare the first fight, with this one since marg has a different trainer(injury), not counting the year suspension.

  7. Now from what I’m hearing Cotto’s saying he wont fight anywhere but New York if Margarito isn’t licensed. Hopefully that’s not the case as I do have respect for Cotto but not taking the fight just because location is changed it makes it come off as he doesn’t really want this fight. He’s a draw in New York but be a fighter and fight anywhere to win. I am looking forward to this fight so I’m hoping for the best and that Margarito is cleared to fight. Otherwise I don’t think Arum will be too happy with Cotto’s decision to not want to fight anywhere else, because I don’t think too many will be pumped for Cotto/Martirosyan instead of the rematch against Margarito.

  8. I think people forget that Margarito landed about 58 more power punches than Cotto. Plaster or no plaster, that takes it’s toll. From what I hear, today (11/22) at 3pm EST is when the NYSAC will render it’s decision on the licensing issue with Margarito.
