Miguel Cotto underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in preparation for fighting Chavez Jr. According to Bob Arum and Cotto’s lawyer, Gabriel Penagaricano, they are both confident the fight against Chavez will not be postponed and will proceed as planned on December 4 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Cotto had reportedly told reporters at a recent Boxeo Boricua press conference in Puerto Rico that because of the shoulder surgery, he might not be able to start training until November. If Miguel Cotto loses to Chavez, I bet he will use that as an excuse as he only had one month to train.

  1. clottey pacman and foreman. well he fought clottey with a cut under his eye for 9 rounds.. yes very impressed. against pacman alone in the ring with no trainer. not to inpressed just dont think the fight should have been stopped. aginst foreman yes i was. he had a great jab and movement. it wasnt cottos fault that foreman ran the whole fight then he messed up his knee. if foreman didnt run he would of looked a little better. and ummm he had that same bum knee for years so it wasnt an excuse. i give cotto alot of credit for fighting whoever they put in the ring. its not his fault if he makes them look bad. now with stewart maybe he better chance to be on top and feared once again..

  2. @bori_4_life LOL.. I wasn’t impress with Cotto’s previous fights, I don’t think Chavez Jr. has the power or the skills to beat Cotto, but for what ever reason if Chavez is able to win I don’t want Cotto to have any excuses considering he will only have 1 month to train.

Being you’re a fan of Miguel Cotto be honest where you impress with Cotto’s last 3 fights?

  3. dam edgar you said you hope he doesnt use that as an excuse?? wow when have you ever heard cotto give excuses? you wrote a 6 sentence article to just throw a brick at a warrior? wow great article ed

  4. Even with a month of training im pretty sure Cotto will beat Chavez by split decision. Chavez is just not a great boxer like his dad and at least his first loss will be to someone who still kinda has a big name in boxing. I will still root for Chavez to win but in reality he is not on Cotto’s level yet and im not sure if he ever will be.

  5. I have never heard Cotto make any excuses what so ever. If he has a problem, just postpone the fight and take time to heal. A month is a short time to train though, It would be understandable if he wasnt ready. Chaves isnt a grand champion or anything but you dont want to underestimate anyone.
