Here’s a special announcement from the “Chatter Box”! Fight fans can meet champions Mia St. John, Sugar Ray Leonard and more THIS Saturday, December 7 at The Mia St. John “El Saber Es Poder” Foundation’s 2013 “A Night With Champions.” This fundraising dinner and awards show will benefit Mia’s nonprofit organization which helps underprivileged youth.

The brunette boxer is known worldwide for her fights in the ring along with her battle to continue to assist children and teens in need. The champ is also an author, model, mental health advocate, mother of two, and more. While she recently announced her retirement from boxing, look for the fan favorite to make a comeback soon.

And on Saturday night, you have a chance to meet St. John, the boxing champs, celebrities, and special guests who will be in attendance at the weekend gala honoring ring legend Sugar Ray Leonard. Tickets are available for $500 each (charitable donation) and guests will enjoy dinner and a silent auction. Please consider giving back to this nonprofit “El Saber Es Poder/Knowledge Is Power” founded by St. John and dedicated to her late mother Soccoro Rosales-Richardson.

I know Mia has been a tireless, hard working hero for her charity work. I caught up with the popular Mexican-American beauty to hear the latest about her foundation, what’s new in her boxing career (YES, she’s coming back to the ring) and why she and her committee chose Ray Leonard for this prestigious award that will be presented at the Hyatt Regency Century City on Saturday night.

Michele Chong: Hi Mia, congrats on your upcoming event! Tell me about honoring Ray Leonard this Saturday…

Mia St. John: Hi Michele! We chose Ray because he was so open and honest in his recent book. I think it will help teach people to speak up about these issues. (Leonard talks about suffering sexual abuse as a young boxer).

MC: What has it been like honoring fighters, your mom and others while helping kids and teens thru “El Saber es Poder”?

MS: It’s been amazing. You know Hector Camacho was our first honoree and he was so gracious and such a beautiful person. I’m honored to have known him. Regardless of his troubles, people were able to see the wonderful, giving side to him.

MC: So about your boxing career…I saw trainer Joel Diaz today at this week’s media workout. He said you may be returning to the ring?

MS: I am returning to the ring! I bought a house in Palm Springs and I’m training in Indio with the Diaz brothers.

MC: So you’re now in the final countdown for your fundraising gala. How can people buy tickets to Saturday’s event?

MS: People can buy tickets through miastjohnfoundation.org or by emailing me at [email protected]

MC: Thanks, Mia, and have a great show!

MS: Thank you!

In the spirit of the holidays, please open your hearts (and your wallets) to come out and support this worthwhile charity event!

You can meet and mingle with the champs as well as helping those in need.
