Mercito Gesta Returns on Eve of Countryman Pacquiao

After dominating Denver, Colorado’s perennial tough guy Manuel Perez by unanimous decision down by the river in Parker, Arizona, on Sept. 17, Top Rank’s 23-year-old southpaw Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (23-0-1, 12KOs) of San Diego, California by way of Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines, swiftly returns Nov. 11 in Las Vegas the night before fellow countryman Manny Pacquiao’s final-chapter-trilogy-fight with Juan Manuel Marquez at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in a Filipino filled weekend of fisticuffs.

Gesta will test his talents — also at Mandalay Bay — against two-time Lightweight world title challenger 26-year-old Ricardo “Pelon” Dominguez (34-7-2, 21KOs) of Tucson, Arizona by way of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, in a 10 round Lightweight co-feature with Las Vegas’ 24-year-old Diego Magdaleno (20-0, 7KOs), taking on 32-year-old Emmanuel Lucero (26-7-1, 14KOs) of Scranton, Pennsylvania by way of Mexico City, Mexico, in a Junior Lightweight 10.

WBO NABO Youth Lightweight titlist Mercito Gesta is coming off the aforementioned domination of Manny Perez. Some thought the fight was close but it wasn’t, Mercito did what he wanted when he wanted. Perez has a durable chin and stuck around for the duration, even landing on Gesta a few times but only to Merc’s amusement. “No Mercy” lit Perez up with perfectly placed right hooks, uppercuts and straight lefts whenever they left their holsters. Gesta hurt Perez a few times between rounds 3-5 and had Manuel uncharacteristically on his bicycle for the remainder of the one-sided affair.

Gesta is on the verge of a 2012 Lightweight World Championship opportunity and will look to impress on the eve of the Pacquiao-Marquez clash under the bright lights of Vegas in front of the world’s eyes where “No Mercy” is sure to pick up many new fans should he do what he does.

“Pelon” Dominguez has only lost twice in his last ten bouts and those losses came at the pinnacle of the sport. Ricardo lost a unanimous decision to Humberto Soto in 2010 for the WBC Lightweight title before losing a unanimous decision to Miguel Vazquez for the IBF Lightweight strap. Ricardo has won two straight and is coming off a knockout victory over — undefeated at the time — Angel Martinez.
