Filipino lightweigh sensation Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (16-0-1, 7KO) is locked and loaded for his Thursday, February 25th’s “Philippines vs. Mexico” eight round bout against experienced journeyman Cristian Favela (17-24-6, 10KO) in San Diego, CA. The bout will mark the second time Gesta and Favela face off. In their first match up in 2008, Gesta was awarded a unanimous decision over the tough brawler.
“In our first fight, I wasn’t 100% conditioned, I hadn’t fought in a while and I kept thinking that the fight was going to be postponed,” Gesta states. “I needed to fight, so I took the fight. Now I am in condition and I am looking to finish him off early, I am going for the KO. Last time I didn’t follow up my attack, this time I will.”
With the knockout win, the Don Chargin promoted southpaw has been assured bigger and better fights in the near future.
“I am ready for the big fights. Things have been worked out with my promoter and he told me this is the year,” Gesta says enthusiastecally. “My target is Vicente Escobedo. I think our styles match up but it is not him, I will fight anybody in my division. I am ready for a championship fight.”
