‘Freckle-face better just sit back and wait in line’ – Floyd Mayweather Jr.

It’s less than two weeks away before the best boxer on the planet steps into the ring again. Floyd Mayweather’s last bout was against Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto for Cinco de Mayo a year ago. Mayweather (43-0) will face Robert Guerrero (31-1-1) on PPV on Saturday May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV for the WBC welterweight title.

The May Day billing will also be his first time fighting for Showtime rather than HBO. The card also features WBC featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon against Abner Mares which should be an outstanding fight. It also includes rising junior featherweight star Leo Santa Cruz against Alexander Munoz.

Mayweather has vowed and signed a contract to fight six times for Showtime over the next three years. Subsequently, this fight against Robert Guerrero is fight number one but will act as step two for a possible superfight with Mexican superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1). Alvarez is coming off a unanimous decision victory over previously undefeated Austin Trout this past weekend in San Antonio, TX (step one). In my opinion, Alvarez fought a defensive fight to remain undefeated and keep the superfight with Mayweather in the making; however, his performance was underwhelming and lacked excitement. That said, I don’t feel he is ready for the aging Mayweather, but his lackluster performance may be what lends to a stronger possibility that Mayweather will agree to the fight later this year.

Let’s not jump the gun though. Mayweather still has a ready and able opponent in front of him in Guerrero who might have something to say (with his fists)before we start talking about any super fights. Most people expect Mayweather to stay undefeated against Guerrero and most online betting sites as well as Las Vegas have him as an 8/1 favorite to win the fight. Make sure you catch this one. There are still tickets available through ticketmaster. If you can’t spring for tickets, you can also catch it closed circuit in Las Vegas at various sites. If Vegas is not a possibility, you can likely watch it at your local movie theater or at home on PPV.

  1. Gilbert, maybe if you put down your xbox controller and picked up a book, you probably would know a little more than what you’re talking about. Apparently trying to look good and throwing a lot of punches is what your comment is about. Just saying..

  2. Say what u all like but canelo not Robert will ever beat mayweather & all already knows this. Canelo is good but he ain’t no Match for Floyd Mayweather.” He just barely made it out of the fight with Canelo he started getting tired little early on so when he gets in with Mayweather you can believe that He better hv his game together He needs to hv his techniques all propped up to go Because if you get tied in with me whether she’s going to lose quick fast and in a hurry.” REALTALK!!!

  3. Canelo all the way. Fuck the haters.
Ooppsss…. Was i being too straight forward??. Canelos defense said it all. Trout threw more but missed more than half the punches he threw. Giving the effect that he did something.

  4. I’m not sure who’s glasses that judge was wearing that scored the fight 118-109 but I dont think he should be scoring any major fights any time soon .I think he needs to go back to doing some pre -lims and get his eyes back in order before stepping back up to the big time I gave the fight to Canelo but it was much closer than that , both fighter were fighting there hearts out but they were missing a lot as well decent fight . Both deserve to be back in the limelight given the performance each gave maybe like u guys have said maybe golden girl will see that.

  5. Right on. Something for all of us to think about. I think Canelo could have done more but maybe his camp and Goldengirl (I like that by the way)wanted to look somewhat underwhelming to maybe lure in Mayweather a little more. What do you think fellas?? A little far fetched but with boxing??????????

  6. Your point is taken. I am with you, the 118-109 score card was ridiculous. Trout fought very hard and dangerously. Canelo did let him go and let him recuperate after hurting him in the 7th round and even took some rounds off. He definitely needs to get better if he wants to someday fight Mayweather. But I still don’t see how Trout could have won the fight. Other than throwing more of punches he still missed most of them. I like Trout. I would have been happy to see him win because he fought his heart out but Canelo played with him with his defense. Could Canelo done better? I don’t know cuz Trout is a high caliber and dangerous fighter. But Canelo still did enough to win this fight. I may sound like a Canelo fan but It’s not really the case. The judge who scored 118-109 may be. I am Boxing fan and I’ll cheer for any fighter that’s great in the ring. In this fight both Trout and Canelo are. But it just so happens that the judges did get it right this time…except the Canelo fan who scored 118-109 judge was on crack. May be a rematch if Golden Girl lets him 🙂

  7. Appreciate the feedback JiValdez2000. The funny thing is though, I am a big fan of the kid. I was just expecting a different fight and truly thought it was very close fight. It is obvious (for all the die hard Canelo fans) that Canelo was never hurt by Trout and like I said his defense was impressive. Personally though, I think he could have been more the aggressor and hurt trout more than he did outside the knockdown. The comments are great, but if you look deeper I have and still do support Canelo. He is one of the best out their coming up, but I hold him to a higher expectation because I think he can be great. Not sure where its coming off I don’t like the kid because my opinion was he may have lost a close fight. Yes, it was his toughest opponent to date. I never disagreed with that. That aside, Trout is a good fighter in his own right and was very respectful and PC conceding the loss. I doubt he truly feels he was beet 116-111 and definitely not 118-109. Not sure where the review on a separate article was not fair however. Thanks for reading though. Go Canelo, LOL

  8. This will be a frustrating fight for the ghost and I’m not sure he can be physical enough to rough up Mayweather. I like the ghost as a boxer and have much respect for him as a man and father but sadly hell come up short – I hope I’m wrong however. As for the jibberish the other guy (Gilbert) posted hes obviously out on a tangent. Back to boxing…money Mayweather will win and will keep running his mouth while sitting out another a year before he gives the fans another fight to watch. The real fight that I’d love to watch is the ghost’s pops working over Floyd senior in the parking lot…although it would get old school and I doubt it’ll involve a whole lot of boxing. Loved the trash talk on showtime…too funny!

  9. LOL… Come on guys play nice… Maestas, we get it… You don’t like Canelo. But you got to give the kid his credit. He was fighting the toughest opponent of his career. A guy who clearly beat Super Star Cotto. Canelo did a great job with his defense and hurt Trout knocking him down as well. Not even Cotto did that! Three judges said he won. If you don’t trust the judges cuz “they were in Texas” call Trout, he’ll tell you to! in case you didn’t hear him say it after the fight. All I’m saying is be fair with your reviews…

  10. I like the banter GilBERT. Helps the cross talk. You feel better about yourself getting that out? Glad you got to see the Pac Marquez fight live. Good for you buddy. You are truly the wisest boxing fan to comment on this. Heres to the biased fan out there, lol.

  11. I didn’t go to college like the person writing this article.Shit hes pretty smart ha? that pretty resume he has. But even an idiot like me knows to win a fight you have to at least tap your opponent. Looking good in the ring throwing allot a punches don’t win a fight or points, neither does looking good, if that was the case my wall would be full of championship belts, i would be the #1 pound for pound. Hell even Trout agreed with the decision, he knew he lost,he said it himself. You cant convince someone they saw something they didn’t see. or tell someone they fought a fight they didn’t, unless they saw it on TV where even fake punches look real, when seeing from the right angle. You don’t need no college degree to know that. Example Marquez Pacman IV i didn’t even see the punch that floored Pacman till i saw it on TV replay because i was sitting behind pacman his body was covering the punch. if he wouldn’t have gone down I would have never even knew he was hit. Unless maybe I had gone to boulder college ha? I mean Mesa jr college Homie
