Marquez and Rios Not Getting My Money

With a few days to go, I am still not convinced this double header is Pay-per-view worthy. We got Brandon Rios vs Richard Abril as the co-main event. Let’s be real, who is Richard Abril? Personally I don’t follow him nor has he given boxing fans a reason to follow him. Even Rios calls him an unknown.

“I’m not letting this unknown coming in and ruining eight years of hard work I put into building my professional boxing career. I beat Miguel Acosta when he was in his prime unlike Abril who beat him on his way down on short notice,” stated Rios.

I think Top Rank is feeding Abril to Rios because they couldn’t find any other opponent after Yuriorkis Gamboa pulled out and is another way to give Rios his WBA lightweight title back. I predict an early knock out by Rios.

The main event for the double header is Juan Manuel Marquez as he takes on Serhiy Fedchenko. Again who the hell is Fedchenko? He might be popular in the Ukraine but not here.

The Brandon Rios fight will take place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas while the Marquez fight will be in his hometown of Mexico City.

The only fight I am interested in seeing will be on the undercard between undefeated Mike Alvarado and Mauricio Herrera. Alvarado is a bad ass and gives his fans a brawl every time. Herrera is no joke. I have seen his fights live before and he will go toe to toe. This fight has war written all over. Undefeated lightweight Mercito Gesta is scheduled to open the pay-per-view.

What’s your opinion, is this PPV worthy?

  1. Just finished watching that bullshit Rios-Abril scoring. Man, you pay for a fight card and the judges completely screw up. Abril WON that fight. I scored it 118-110 for Abril.

  2. I didn’t know this was on ppv until now and I got to say that I’m disappointed that they would try to charge for these lame fights. I might go half on it if Marquez was fighting Rios or something like that, but not to watch a couple of guys that when their names are mentioned it makes you look at your boys and ask who’s that? Highlights should do fine.

  3. @ Jesus, that’s some luck right there. I wouldn’t mind watching this free but screw paying for it.

  4. I’ll only get it if one of my buddys goes half on it… If he doesn’t then I won’t get it , I’ll just read about it

  5. I’ll be watching on the Azteca Network FOR FREE like I always do. I wouldn’t pay 1 dollar for this card

  6. I can’t focus knowing there’s fights on, refreshing web pages to see who won. Besides, Every time I DON’T get the PPV, something bizarre happens. Who knows, maybe Fedchenko isn’t the tomato can everyone’s saying he is. Alvarado vs Herrera could be great. Rios beating Abril senseless. I’m starting to sound like a PPV salesman, but i’m going to get it. Marquez won’t be around forever!!

  7. I understand that HBO had no interest in showing this fight on the network and maybe Showtime wasn’t interested, but couldn’t they have gone on with it on a network like ESPN or even that EPIX network? I don’t care to pay $50 to watch 3 guys going in for tune-up fights ( Marquez, Rios and Gesta) and one fight that may really have potential. As big of a fan I am of Marquez and Rios I will not pay to watch them fight a couple of nobodies. On a side note Gesta really needs to take a step up in competition, we know he can beat journeymen all day but come on, take on a fellow contender or prospect already.
