Southpaw back in action in Florida
Tonight’s the night, ladies and gentlemen, as Hector “Macho” Camacho returns to the ring as the main event on the “A Part of History” fight card at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Florida. The world champ (79-5, 38 KOs) will be facing Saul “Baby Duran” Duran (36-16-2, 30 KOs), from Chihuahua, Mexico. And after this battle, Camacho vows to continue to fight after hopefully adding another victory on his record tonight.
I caught up with Team Macho as the final hours are ticking by before the long-awaited comeback of the speed and flashy southpaw from Puerto Rico–who will turn 48 on May 24th!
“The weigh-in went smooth,” Eddie Montalvo, CEO/President, Monta Sports Agency and advisor to Camacho told me.
Can Macho still do this at his age and stage of his career? “Yes! He’s 163 and sharp; he’s thinner than dinner!” laughs Montalvo. “He’s a lot thinner and a lot stronger than before.”
The Bayamon brawler is currently a Tampa, Florida resident and is happy to fight in front of his fans, especially after a match in Denmark was postponed recently. So on Friday evening, his loyal following will get to catch a scheduled ten rounds of action as “Macho Man” hopes to thwart “Father Time.” The event is being presented by Reyes-Macho Time Promotions and will broadcast live on www.NESportsTV.com
Montalvo is looking forward to an explosive night of boxing and assures me again that Camacho is more than ready. “He’s a bomber; the kid’s gonna shine!”
Also scheduled are two female matchups between Patricia Alcivar and Ana Laura Gomez; the co-main will be Jenna Shiver vs. Liliana Martinez. A total of eight bouts will take place with many boxing celebrities in attendance to witness Camacho make history on the canvas.
“Jeff Lacy and Pinklon Thomas will be coming,” Montalvo said. “There’s a lot of Florida fighters who live in the area, around St. Pete’s. We also have Winky Wright, Antonio Tarver, Nate Campbell, Roy Jones Jr. who live here too. Florida’s a great place for boxing!”
Fight fans in the southern state, set your watches…Tonight it will be “Macho Time” as the showman plans his course for victory–to make history!
