Marco Antonio Barrera, one of the few Mexican fighters who have reign in three different weight classes, stated that he is ready to travel to Manchester, England and face the U.K.’s Amir Khan this coming March 14th in quite possibly one of the most important tests of his career.

Khan (19-1, 15KO), who was a silver medalist in the ’04 Olympics, will defends his WBA International lightweight title and challenge for the WBO Inter-Continental strap when he faces the seven time world champion Marco Antonio Barrera (65-6, 43KO) in the main event of the night.

“I lot of things depends on the outcome of this fight.  I accepted to face an elite fighter because I want to prove that I can still defeat fighters of this level and that I can do it in their hometown.  I know that Khan is a good fighter, with a strong punch and fast hands, olympic style,  but none of that worries me, I know that I will defeat him,” Barrera said.

Barrera stated that after this bout, he would like to make a run for the lightweight world title, but against who?  “As of right now, I am concentrating only on Khan.  After we can talk about other opponents.  There is four different lightweight titles, we will see which one will we will go after.”

Barrera stated that he is at weight and practically ready to step into the ring.  Traveling with the “Baby Faced Assasin” will be his brother Jorge, his father, the doctors Plutarco Gatica, Ricardo Hernandez, Victor Vallejo and Gonzalo Gomez Salazar, cutman Tony Rivera, his japanese trainer Sendai Tanaka, Aaron Dominguez, his wife Sandra and about forty fans and friends who are making the excursion accross the pond.
