With Labor Day quickly approaching the long summer days are all but behind us, days will soon start to become shorter and the weather will start to cool off, however before we bid adieu to the summer of 2013, Boxing will kick off the fall with one of the most anticipated and exciting fight cards in quite sometime.

Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, simply referred to as “The One”.

Yet as exciting as Mayweather vs Canelo is expected to be, the Co-Main event may very well take the spotlight.

Lucas Matthysse vs Danny Garcia.

May 18th, 2013. The boxing world had their eyes fixed on Matthysse as he entered the ring against the hot Lamont Peterson, a fighter who finally lived up to his expectations when he beat Amir Khan in the winter of 2011 followed by an exciting stoppage of the gritty Kendall Holt that led to this May night in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In the crowd Danny Garcia would await the winner.

That would work itself out in three rounds as Mattysse would once again stop his opponent as he had 31 times before, yet this win was different. Immediately twitter blew up with Garcia meme as he looked sacred and wanted no part of Matthysse as most people wanted to believe and it would be hard to argue that Garcia wouldn’t be a little hesitant. He had just witnessed first hand the destructive force that is Lucas Matthysse.

However for anyone that follows Garcia on Twitter or Instagram knows that Garcia does not lack confidence or swagger. While Garcia may have had a look of apprehension or fear, Garcia is a Amir Khan v Danny Garcia - Press Conferenceboxer and a pretty good one, while Matthysee looks every bit as his nickname “The Machine” with his workman like effort; he also has two losses on his record, something Garcia does not have and it is with that zero that gives Garcia the confidence and knowledge that he can and will hang with Matthysse come September 14th.

Both men have the power to stop one another, the question is, who will that be? Matthysse, that man most boxing fans assume is the knockout artist of the two and who by most is destined to be the next big thing, or is his hype bigger than what it should be? He has the two losses to men who are not considered to be p4p material. Devon Alexander and Zab Judah. Two fights many believe he won.

Or will Garcia with his calm and undeterred confidence once again reign supreme. Garcia’s dad will tell you not to sleep on his son and rightfully so. While Garcia may have been a late replacement fighter for Amir Kahn a year ago, he has done nothing but prove people wrong since he turned pro, nothing seems to change not even facing Matthysse.

This fight deserved its own headline but Goldenboy wanted to make a statement and made the hottest fight night of 2013. For the fans that have tickets, they look to be winners for an evening of exciting and possibly record breaking events- at least on paper. For the fans watching at home, in a bar, or at a friends house, remember this night.

Just a little over two weeks until all the questions are answered and not a moment too soon- As boxing seems at if it’s holding its breath until that Saturday night in Las Vegas. Showtime All Access Mayweather-Canelo started their pre fight show that runs for the next 2 weeks for the upcoming fight. Fans are once again getting a look into the preparation both men are putting into the fight in two weeks.

Fights cards rarely have two highly anticipated fight as “The One” does and few fights can leave the memories that September 14th hopes to leave. While nothing in boxing is ever what it is expected to be, some fights live up to all their hype and “The One” should deliver a night to remember.
