Stacked Card With Thompson Boxing

Friday night boxing cards are always a great way to ignite the weekend. On October 23, Thompson Boxing Promotions will host their “Locked N’ Loaded” show to be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.

I’ve been attending these standing-room only events for a while now and they are always a blast. Through the years, Thompson shows have feature a wide variety of talent from hungry up-and-comers to homegrown heroes to future champs and international stars. It’s the perfect way to catch some rising talent while also seeing contenders on their way to the top.

Set to square off on October 23 are Isaac Zarate, Jhonatan Romero, Juan Carlos Burgos, LaRon Mitchell, Miguel Trejo and more. This lineup offers an assortment of prizefighters who all make their living trading leather: Zarate is a young southpaw hailing from San Pedro who is continuing his ascent up the ranks; “Momo” Romero is a former champ and Colombian star; “Miniburgos” is an ex-champ making his way back in the ring; Mitchell is an unbeaten heavyweight who is also a school teacher; and Trejo looks to keep adding W’s to his record.

One thing these sluggers have in common is that they will all be gunning for their opponents on this “Locked N’ Loaded” card. There will be no shortage of firefights; this SoCal showdown promises some scorching action you won’t want to miss.

Thompson Boxing Promotions’ President/Founder Ken Thompson and General Manager/Matchmaker Alex Camponovo have been presenting their fight series for over 15 years now. The company is known for providing fight fans competitive matches, entertaining nights and a chance to see new fighters, current champs and veteran warriors who sit ringside. They have become known for tough matchups that lead to standing ovations from the spectators.

At the last show, California State Athletic Commission’s Mark Relyea commented on the fair and competitive contests featured in September’s show. Thompson Boxing was praised for hosting fan-friendly fights. Relyea gave a lot of credit to matchmaker Alex Camponovo, who he said is one of the catalysts for making these shows great.

And at each and every event, there are always familiar faces spotted in the crowd. At their recent “Path to Glory” show in September, the crowd got a chance to meet popular Thompson fighters like Artemio “King” Reyes (who was providing on-air commentary during the fights). Back in the gym, Reyes looks to fight again soon. Ring announcer Sonny Franco also introduced many of the luminaries and VIPS seated in the venue like “Boxcino” champ Petr Petrov, unbeaten Colombian boxer Oscar Negrete, IFBA champ Sindy “La Alacrana” Amador and Isaac “Dinamita” Zarate (who is on tap as the main event October 23), among others.

Albert “Tweety” Davila was also a special guest sitting ringside. He fought in a golden era during the days of the famed Olympic Auditorium and the Forum in Inglewood. During his career, he had 56 wins as a pro and boxing aficionados were thrilled to meet him at the monthly Thompson fights.

And the October 23 fights should be a doozy with plenty of fireworks during the night.

Don’t miss it.
