Meet the Champs at Saturday’s Event

There will be a “Ladies First” Hall of Fame Awards Banquet TOMORROW, Saturday November 9 at the Luminarias Restaurant in Monterey Park.

I am proud to say I will be one of the recipients at this awards show hosted by the Golden State Boxers Association (GSBA) President Bill Dempsey Young, Vice President Linda Young and the GSBA committee.

The honorees will also include Mia St. John, Lucia Rijker, Layla McCarter, Sue Fox, Jacquie Richardson, Carol Steindler and Gwen Adair. There will also be a special tribute to Ken Norton (with his family members present). The awardees, female and male champs and fighters, boxing luminaries and more will be joining the gala.

“Mia St. John has a commitment in New York and won’t be able to make it,” organizer Linda Young mentioned to me, “We will miss her. But we have a lot of champions coming to the awards along with a great lunch, video highlights and prize raffle.”

A prize raffle for Andre Ward tickets (courtesy of Goossen Tutor), boxing memorabilia, gift baskets and more will take place during the day.

Champs invited to attend are: Diana Prazak, Alberto “Superfly” Sandoval, Mike “Hercules” Weaver, Gabriel Ruelas, Bobby “Schoolboy” Chacon, Andy “The Hawk” Price, Alex “The Bronx Bomber” Ramos, Frankie Duarte, Rodolfo “El Gato” Gonzalez, Jesus Pimentel, Ronnie Essett, Paul Banke, John Montes, Art Frias, Danny Valdez, Frankie Santillan, and more.

California Boxing Hall of Fame’s Don Fraser and the WBC’s Rudy Tellez are among the familiar faces you’ll see at the gathering. Female fighter and filmmaker Jill Morley (of the award-winning “Fight Like a Girl”) will also be in attendance at this November tribute to women working in the sweet science.

Thank you to the GSBA for recognizing females in the sport.

Congrats to all my fellow inductees and see you at the show!

If you’d like to purchase tickets, call Linda at (818) 621-2249 or e-mail her at: [email protected]
