It took junior welterweight champion Amir Khan a trip to Canada and nearly two weeks of turmoil just to secure a visa to make his highly anticipated debut in the United States.

It was well worth the wait.

WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KOs) outworked former IBF champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-4, 5 KOs) for eleven rounds on Saturday night in The Theater at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City. Khan won every round in a one-sided beating Khan backed Malignaggi against the ropes and threw a series of unanswered blows before referee Steve Smoger finally stepped between them at 1:25 of the round.

“I think with my speed I can catch any fighter,” Khan said. “I knew I was going to catch him and I could see him getting his head knocked back. I could see him get frustrated.”

“I’ve fought all around the world but today I was a little nervous,” Khan said. “I was walking in and I could hear a lot of boos, but at the end of the fight a lot of people were cheering for Amir Khan, because I know I have a style that people will like.”

Victor Ortiz (27-2-1, 21 KOs) took a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over 38-year-old former lightweight world champion Nate Campbell (33-6-1, 25 KOs). Ortiz was credited with a questionable knockdown in round one, but he didn’t need the extra help as he pounded out a clear ten round unanimous decision. Scores were 100-89, 100-89, and 99-90.

Campbell looked like he came to collect his retirement check as he refuses to fight. In the 10th, Campbell actually ran out to get Ortiz, but that didn’t last long, either, as “The Galaxy Warrior” was nailed a few times as he came charging.

Undefeated super lightweight prospect Jamie Kavanagh (Right) walks to a neutral corner after scoring a knockdown en route to a seconds round technical knockout victory over William Ware (Left).

  1. Paulie, what now? Put up a beauty salon now? is your badmouthing over? good karma, isn’t it?

  2. I knew this would be a TKO in favor of Khan. 🙂

Still Khan needs a lot to prove to beat the elite but Freddie will be there to help him out.

  3. whats up guys.. i saw this fight and i dont think is close to being fight of the year and i think it was as a one-sided fight than the floyd-mosley fight. this was khans fight from the door. his chin was in question not his speed. by putting him against paulii wouldnt proove u have a chin just shows that you have speed and khans reach was big against pauli. to much of an advantage for khan. freddy is gonna be hand picking his next fight i dont think he will fight a big hitter yet. but maidana is recovering from a back injury so freddy might try to go after him now and take advantage of his recovering.

  4. roach said that Khan is his second pacman .it seems that roach has a lot confidence in Amir .
I heard that Amir want to fight Katsidis in england is that true?
I think Khan has more to prove before granting the opportunity to fight big name like Manny or Floyd .however,I think knan will give floyd a very hard time if they fight and I think he will never fight manny because they both share the same trainer .
Maidana, bradly, katsids,Alexander and ortiz are all possible opponents for khan in the future .
I have question for all boxing fans .Do you guys think the khan is capable for beating the abovementioned opponents and is he going to be able to fulfill his promise to unify all tities in the lightwelter weight division ?!

  5. Kessler vs froch was a great fight I remember watchin it on t.v ….. Hopefully the cotto fight comin up is good I’m looking forward to watching it…. Hopefully cotto becomes a champion again………….

  6. I wouldn’t call this a fight of the year candidate. In my opinion ( and I respesct everyone else’s opinion ) a one sided fight can’t be fight of the year. I like Kessler vs Froch as a stronger candidate for fight of the year at this moment.

  7. Malignaggi can do better only with slower fighters like Diaz, plus he doesn’t have KO power. this was a fight for Khan to win and he did big time.

  8. I actually thought Malignaggi would do better. Congrats to Khan. I hope he sticks to his promise of unifying the 140 lbs belts. Khan vs Bradley would be a great match.

  9. This was a way better fight than mayweather mosley,,and it was free on hbo…..the ortiz fight was good also,,,didn’t have to get ripped off for 54.99 like on may 1st…

  10. It was a real good fight .. Good job amir khan!!I gotta give it up to paulie he was real respectful at the end of the fight ,and took his beating like a man…I thought he was gonna be crying ,but he didn’t ,so my respects for paulie….
