Kelly Pavlik ran 4.8 miles on Thursday, 3.3 miles this morning in scorching hot Youngstown.

“We went to the gym the other day and the thermometer read 136-degrees. Kelly and I turned on the exhaust fans just to cool things down. It’s been brutally hot here,” said chief trainer Jack Loew.

Pavlik is training for his bout against southpaw Darryl Cunningham on Saturday, August 6 at the Covelli Centre in his hometown of Youngstown. Pavlik vs. Cunningham will be televised on a SHOBOX Special Edition telecast. Cunningam, from Detroit, is unbeaten in his last 16 bouts.

“Cunningham is a very solid fighter,” Loew said. “Kelly has been working hard, sparring a lot. He knows how important this fight is.”

Tickets at $150, $100, $50 and $25 are available at the Covelli Centre box office, www.tickemaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000.

  1. Pavlik just pulled a Timothy Bradley and punked out over “money”. Guess it’s safe to say they are only in it for the money not to be the best in their respective division. I agree with you 100% EZ very well put. I use to really enjoy Pavlik, pre-Hopkins but since then it’s getting pretty hard to consider myself a fan of his. Still wish him the best but I don’t see much of a comeback in the ring hope i’m wrong.

  2. Honestly… I don’t know what to think about Pavlik. He surprised the world with his to dynamic wins over Taylor. I even gave him a about a 50-50 chance with Hopkins. Since then his reputation for PULLING OUT of fights is far greater than his past victories. A real shame because I expected him to rebound from the Hopkins fight in a far more impressive manor.

Some say that he was unsatisfied with the conditions of his contract. hmmmm.. And he waited just days before the fight to offer us this ‘excuse’ and expects the fans to accept it?? Remember the ‘hand injury? pullout of the Paul Williams fight?? Then he turned around a fought another opponent the following month, once he was sure Williams accepted to fight Martinez??!!

Man… I hate to kick a MAN when he’s down BUT.. Kelly hasn’t been acting much like a MAN these days. Oh well…..
