It as been confirmed that Edwin Valero will face Antonio Pitalua for the interim WBC lightweight title on April 4th from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX. Also added to the explosive fight card as the semi main event is Coachella, CA’s Julio Diaz versus Joel Casamayor along with Michael Katsidis against Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez clashing with Jorge Barrios, all the bouts in the lightweight division.
“For me this fight is very important especially because it is happening here in the United States. I am going to give all my fans in the venue or on television a first class fight and they will see my hand get raised and become the new WBC lightweight champion,” Valero stated confidently. “I don’t know what is happening after this fight but it all depends on my promoter Bob Arum and my manager Jose Castillo who are the ones that are at the helm of my career, but what I can say is what my friends the Mexicans say ‘no me rajo ante nadie’ (I don’t back down from no one), so I will fight anybody that they put in front of me since their is enough Edwin for a while.”
Diaz, who is training in his hometown of Coachella, CA said “I am very happy to be on the semi main event under these two great warriors Valero and Pitalua. I am cheering for Valero, I have seen him fight and he is very strong and he hits hard but he is going against a very tough Colombian. I am also training very hard since I know that I have a very tough fight in front of me but I am very sure of myself and I know that I will be the winner that night because I feel very strong.”
