For the second time in his career Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who lost to the broken hands of Sergio Martinezon Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, has tested positive for a banned substance, this time marijuana.

This being his second offense in Nevada, Chavez could face a year’s suspension and the loss of up to 100% of his purse, which was $3 million, before any pay-per-view revenue he receives.

In 2009, he tested positive for Furosemide, a diuretic used to help lose weight or as a masking agent for steroids. The NSAC suspended him for seven months and he was fined $10,000.

You might say big deal its only weed. Well marijuana, of course, is illegal in addition to being banned by the commission.

Chavez is just a spoiled child who thinks he could get away with anything. His lack of commitment is a slap in the face to all boxing fans. Lets not forget a week before his fight with Marco Antonio Rubio, Chavez was charged with DUI in Los Angeles which he reached a plea deal and received three years probation and was ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous.

“Of course, we’re disappointed in him,” Top Ranks, CEO, Bob Arum said. “Hopefully, he can learn a lesson here and next time get in top shape for the fight. But it shows you the immaturity here. He needs to grow up.”

Chavez is only 26-years-old and its already going in the wrong path. Soon he will realize not everything is served in a silver platter.

  1. Hopefully the commision serves out a just punishment. This of course is a violation of his probation too. We’ll see what happens in the coming days…

  2. Sounds like he is getting too big for his boot.

I am totally behind marijuana legislation but Chavez a professional sportsman in a dangerous sport.

He is being unprofessional just like Ricky Hatton
