Juan Diaz who has been running a trucking and construction business with his younger brother, Jose, for the pass year is planning to return to the ring on July 29 headlining ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”.
The “Baby Bull” will take on an old sparring partner, David Torres (21-2-2, 13 KOs), in a schedule 10-round lightweight bout at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Also on the card Joel Casamayor (38-5-1, 22 KOs) takes on Jorge Teron (25-2-1, 17 KOs).
Diaz, 27, plans to fight another year before retiring and focus in Law School.
“I sparred with him a few times in the past and he’s one of those guys who is real aggressive and has some good power to him,” Diaz said. “He knows my strengths and weaknesses, just like I do his.”
“The ‘Baby Bull’ is back. Boxing is still in my heart, still in my blood,” added Diaz.
He is a good fighter but he has a lot to prove .
This will be a great card for FNFs, granted that Casamayor and Diaz aren’t what they once were it’s still bigger names and they don’t appear to be fighting a couple of slouches either. Either way I think it’s great exposure for FNFs and I’ll be watching. I’d love ESPN to cut them a bigger budget so we continue to get quality fights each week.
