Jose Luis Castillo vs Jorge Paez Jr. This Friday

Jose Luis Castillo was one of my all time favorites back in the days. I remember him fighting Mayweather Jr. and getting robbed the first time and I kept telling myself that he will be unstoppable, gosh was I wrong. I don’t dislike him as a person but I did lose a lot of respect for Castillo. When Castillo didn’t make weight for several of his fights, that’s when everything started going down hill. I think one time he was 8 pounds overweight, you just don’t do that.

In October of 1999, Castillo beat the infamous Jorge Paez in just 5 rounds, now his son Jorge Paez Jr. (26-3, 17KOs) will try to avenge his father loss in the same home town of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico on Friday, March 25. Just like his last two fights, after losing to Alfonso Gomez, it seems like no one really cares. There’s usually buzz but this time around I think even Castillo knows he lost his loyal fans and there’s noting he could do to change that.

Are you still a fan of Jose Luis Castillo?

  1. No matter what I’m still a fan of Castillo yes I agree he mest up in his last fights n I also agree that he shouldn’t be fighting no more. I really didn’t like the fight between Castillo n hatton it wasn’t even worth then I knew Castillo didn’t have it in him any more. By the way do any of you know if hbo or showtime will be hosting the fight or on what channel?

  2. I agree that Castillo was robbed first time around vs Floyd. A lot of fighters fight for too long and this is no exception. But you don’t stop being a fan because of it. I’m still a fan but I really don’t think he should fight anymore.

  3. Well.. IF.. Castillo beats Raez Jr, what does it mean? And… IF Paez Jr defeats Castillo, what does it mean?? The truth is that Paez Jr has more to win than Jose Luis, right? If he can add Castillo’s name to his list of victims then it would reasonably help he career, even if Castillo is well past his more productive years.

I’d like to close my eyes and go with Castillo, hoping that he comes to fight in decent shape. But… ya never know with him these days. But IF he does, (that’s a big “IF”) then I’ll go with him. Paez Jr has also had his share of “Camacho Jr discipline and major weight issues of his own, coming in as high as 168Lbs.

Interestingly, he “won” the WBC Youth Light Welter title even though he never made the division weight limit, coming in almost 4 pounds overweight. The WBC/Suliaman ‘looked the other way” once again.

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if the WBC/Suliaman makes the winner of this fight the MANDATORY challenger for Bradley’s title. Oh well…. Peace!

  4. Jose Luis Castillo could have had one of the greatest trilogies in boxing history with the late Great, Chico Corrales.

First match was one of the greatest of all time. Second was a KO from Castillo being like 8lbs over weight. The third never happened because Corrales refuse to fight him as Castillo entered over the weight limit agai!.

Castillo robbed the fans of what could have been one of the greatest trilogies of all time.

    Pinche Castillo!

  5. The old Castillo is the Castillo i was a fan of but same here Edgar once he let himself slip I lost a lot of respect I had for this man, once is forgivable depending on the situation but to do it repeatedly slows a lack of respect for the sport as well as your opponents.Coming in overweight shows you were not truly dedicated especially 8 pounds over is a slap in the face to the sport and the fans. I also have to agree he was robbed against Floyd the first time that was the Castillo I had much respect for. Either way that was when I was a fan, but now hang em up old man because nobody cares anymore.
