Former world champion Jorge ‘Travieso’ Arce of Mexico is heading to Atlantic City, N.J. Arce will take on Fernando Lumacad of the Philippines on Top Rank’s Latin Fury 9′ championship boxing event at the Boardwalk Hall. Caesars Atlantic City is hosting. The Arce vs. Lumacad super flyweight fight will replace the Fernando Montiel vs. Eric Morel title fight. Montiel, the WBO bantamweight champion from Mexico, is out with a hand injury. “The plan is to move the Montiel title fight to a new date, perhaps in September,” said Bob Arum of Top Rank.
The Arce vs. Lumacad fight was initially scheduled for Friday, June 20 in Tijuana. When Montiel’s injury was confirmed today, the Arce fight was moved to Latin Fury 9. This will be Arce’s first fight since he lost his WBA super flyweight belt to Victor Darchinyan in a unification fight on Feb 7 in Anaheim, Calif. Arce, with a record of 51-5-1 with 39 KOs, lives and trains in Los Mochis, Mexico. Lumacad, 19-1-2, 7 KOs, is from Metro Manila, Philippines. There will be 4 bouts on the Latin Fury 9 PPV telecast. Russian Olympian Matt Korobov, who won his 6th pro fight this past weekend on the Cotto vs Clottey card at Madison Square Garden, is now training in New Jersey. Korobov, a middleweight, will box 4 round on the under card at the Boardwalk Hall on June 27.
