Environmental lawyer John Arum is being remembered as a man who worked tirelessly to protect Washington state’s natural resources.
After a long search, the body of John Arum, the 49-year-old son of Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, was found on Friday on Storm King Mountain in North Cascades National Park 85 miles northeast of Seattle. An experienced mountaineer and environmentalist, Arum fell during a solo climb of the 8,515-foot Storm King peak. He had been attempting to climb the 100 highest summits in Washington and had previously scaled 82 of them.
Rescue workers are trying to develop a plan to recover his body which is in extremely rugged terrain on the mountain’s north side. Arum was a board member of the Washington Environmental Council. State Public Lands Commissioner Peter Goldmark says he was a passionate advocate for environmental protection and good policy.
