Joe Calzaghe is Team Haye

I kind of miss Joe Calzaghe, he was one of my favorite fighters. To bad he had to retire to soon. He was a former WBO, IBF, WBA and WBC super-middleweight champion of the world and was able to retire in 2008 with 46 wins and no defeats in a sixteen year career, that’s pretty amazing. He also defeated Bernard Hopkins in the light-heavyweight division.

Aside from his ex-wife, Jo-Emma Larvin, publicly humiliating his cocaine use, Calzaghe in the eyes of the world is the down-to-earth undefeated hero known as the “Pride of Wales”. Joe is one of the few guys to have the talent and intelligence to achieve his goals and get out when the going was good.

Calzaghe was in David Haye’s gym earlier this week as Haye prepares for his anticipated fight with Wladimir Klitschko on July 2nd at Hamburg’s Imtech Arena.

“I always love coming down here and seeing David go through his paces,” said Calzaghe. “He is such a dynamic and exciting fighter to watch – he’s my kind of fighter. He’s quick, sharp and classy and throws punches with bad intentions. David is one of the most exciting fighters in the world right now and even his gym sessions are exciting.”

We all know who Calzaghe will be cheering for next Saturday. Were you ever a fan of Joe Calzaghe?
