Last Saturday night, former bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez was stopped by a devastating KO in the third round in his challenge of the
man from the rising sun Toshiaki Nishioka for the WBC super bantamweight title en Monterey, MX.
Now because of the loss, Gonzalez is contemplating changes to his team.
“I am very sad because I waited for so long for this opportunity and to fail in my second attempt for the title and I lost in the worst way,” Gonzalez stated.
“I should have been more careful with Nishioka’s left, he completely knocked me out,” Gonzalez said regarding the knock out punch. “I wasn’t able to recuperate from that punch. I don’t recall anything that happened in the ring. I didn’t what had happened until afterward in the dressing room.”
He also mentioned that although the Japanese does not hit very hard, he is very accurate.
“He got me right on the button.”
Visibly shaken up, Gonzalez is considering big changes to his team, quite possibly a different trainer.
“I am going to rest and analyze what happened,” he added regarding his future. “There might be changes in my team, might get a new trainer
because I need to learn new things. I might need a month to decide.”
