Jose Sulaiman, Director of the World Boxing Council, confirmed yesterday that the bout between super featherweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto and Chicago’s David Diaz on March 13th in Dallas, TX, will be for the lightweight title.
“Edwin Valero is the champion in recess and he will go up to the jr. welterweight division. Now Soto and Diaz will fight for the lightweight title, the WBC is trying to stay away from interim titles,” Sulaiman stated in his weekly reunion with the press.
Soto-Diaz will be the semi-main event to the Pacquaio-Clottey mega fight billed as “The Event” scheduled for Cowboys Stadium.
Soto (50-7-2, 32KO), who is trained by Bobby Quirarte in Tijuana, MX, will by vying for his third world title as he holds the 130lbs. belt and held the 126lbs. strap before.
