By Nick Giongco of FightNews: Shane Mosley is not only amenable to a catch weight and a 60-40 revenue split in favor of Manny Pacquiao but the flashy American puncher likewise dangles an immediate rematch clause in the event of a victory over the Filipino boxing icon. “I don’t have to ask Manny to fight me because he has agreed to face me so I am asking (Top Rank chief) Bob Arum to get it on,” Mosley told Manila Bulletin and fightnews on Friday afternoon in a long distance interview. Mosley said he is not only willing to get down to as light as 144 lbs and is agreeable to a lesser share of the prize money but is inclined to give Pacquiao a rematch clause if he emerges victorious in a proposed Oct. 17 showdown.
“If I win, I will immediately give Pacquiao a rematch before I face (Floyd) Mayweather,” said Mosley, the reigning World Boxing Association welterweight titlist. “I don’t see any problem between me and Manny Pacquiao (as) we have both agreed to fight each other so Bob Arum should make this fight,” said Mosley, who turns 38 in September.
Pacquiao had been quoted as saying that he is amenable to a fight with Mosley provided that he is happy with the outcome of planned negotiations between his promoter Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), which has Mosley under its banner.
Mosley said Arum is more interested in staging an all-Top Rank slugfest with the Hall of Fame promoter eyeing Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto or Venezuelan Edwin Valero as Pacquiao’s opponent in October. “Arum wants Cotto for Pacquiao and Edwin Valero. But nobody knows who Valero is,” said Mosley, who holds two wins over Oscar De La Hoya.
“I am a major attraction,” added Mosley.
Hey Jon Temple….
I agree that if this fight where to happen between Mosley and Manny, it will be very entertaining. Here is where I disagree, Mosley would destroy Manny Pacquiao just because off all of the opponents he has face in his career. compare to who Manny has faced. Arum doesn’t even want this fight too happen because of the risk that Mosley would win, but he might not have no choice.
Mosley only had problems with taller fighters who where only in a heavier division that he shouldn’t have never fought in the first place. Did you forget what he did too a taller Margercheato…..
Any fighter in the world would have some kind of problems with taller opponents who haves more of a reach advantage. Example Roy Jones, He had problems with south paw, like a Antonio Tarvred. But he has beaten south Paws before even though he had problems with them. The same go’s for Shane Mosely. Believe Manny had problems with taller opponents, like a Moralles.
Please don’t get me wrong. For a fighters who’s been knocked out twice in his career and has lost 3 fights all together to be able too turn himself around too become the world pound for pound champions I give all the credit in the world. But he his now facing guy who have been there before, lets not forget Shane Mosley was P4P before…..OK
Too bee honest I would too see this fight happen instead.
But I think this fight would not be good for Manny because he would really get hurt.
I think the most entertaining and most interesting fight for Pacman would be with Shane Mosley.
Both Mosely and Pacquiao are classy as individuals as well as classy in the ring.
They both have always given their all to those who have paid to see them fight and have taken on all comers. There is no bull with these two deserving future hall-of-famers.
I know that Mosely is being promoted by “Golden Boy”, but if I am not mistaken, he manages himself or his wife manages him.
While I do think that Pacquiao is at his absolute peak as a fighter and should win, I think Mosely and Pacquiao have a lot in common. Besides their class. Lots of experience, fighting the best of the best, beating De La Polla three times between them, and have very versatile styles and great speed of hands and foot speed.
I know it would last more than two rounds and I think Mosely has the speed and make this a truly competitive fight and I feel pretty certain that Mosely will be able to actually land some punched on Pacquiao (unlike his last two opponents).
Even at 40 %, it would no doubt be the biggest payday for Mosely, a fighter who absolutely is deserving. He got his reputation and pedigree the hard way, “he earned it”.
Mosely in the past has had difficulties with tall fighters with a reach advantage. Other than that, Mosely, like Pacquiao, might start boxing, but the “competitive fighter” in both of them seems to come out rapidly and I think it would the best match that could be made for Pacquiao.
Besides, we all owe Mosely a debt of gratitude for his LEGAL devastation of Cheat-a-Rito. What a great show of boxing talent that fight was.
