The former U.S. Olympian from Glendale, CA won a 10-round unanimous decision on the Yuri Foreman-Miguel Cotto undercard Saturday at Yankee Stadium against Joe Greene (22-1, 14KOs).
Martirosyan who trains with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym wasn’t as exciting to watch as I was hoping for. Greene came out looking to pressure Martirosyan and was landing hard right jabs and left hands under a tight guard of Vanes. Considering Greene fought only once in 2009 and had never faced a big name, he was able to
scrore convincely against Matirosyan.
24-year-old “The Nightmare” landed a right hand behind Greene’s head in round ten that was counted as a knockdown. Two judges scored it 96-93 meaning the fight would’ve been a draw had Greene remained upright and won the 10th round.
After the bout, Martirosyan declared that he was ready for the best in the division including the night’s big winner, Miguel Cotto. Which was a stupid call if you ask me, I don’t think Vanes could compete well in this division. You got Sergio Martinez, Alfredo Angulo, Paul Williams and that’s just to name a few.
Is Martirosyan at or near the level of the best 154-pounders? That remains unanswered.
@ Alex,
I agree. I’ve witnessed my share of crooooooked decisions. I thought:
Funeka beat Guzman the first time around
Castillo beat Mayweather the first time around.
Lewis beat Holyfield the first time around.
Vanda beat Chavez Jr. the first time around
Dianzo beat Ayala
Barrera beat Morales the first time around
etc, etc…
I just hate it when crooked judges favor someone unjustly. Because vanes is a young prospect and ouma is like a fading flower that’s why they favored vanes. That’s what I suspected must have happened. Sometimes vanes pisses me off when he jumps on his feet too often. Not to be confused with feet movement though. Those are two different things.
@ Alex,
I agree. I also thought he lost to Ouma.
@Alex I agree with you, Nicely said! and about Vic your right his one crazy dude.
Vanes is my home countryman even closer, from the same city Abovian, but I don’t really like vanes’s style and he’s getting himself way ahead. It’s not about winning a fight after a fight by close margine, it’s about how you handle each fighter respectively. He struggled with green and ouma, actually I thought owma won the fight then judges surprised me suddenly. Vanes gets hit more than he hits his opponents and his defense probably would be same as mine that never been in a ring. His head is stablized all the time. He doesn’t have head movement at all. He also jumps too much on his feet unnecessarily. He does not have stratigic foot movement, that’s why he gets nailed right and left. As to fight with Williams and Martinez is just going to be another surprise for him as ouma surprised him. I don’t thing vanes can land a single shot at Martinez at all. With Williams he’ll get KD almost in every round. His talking is typical among youngsters of his age, particularly my young Armenian boys. Those motherfuckers don’t have respect for others and they see only themselves being tough guys. With Vic the story is different. when he big mouths he backs it up with his toughness. Vanes is not as tough as Vic. Vic is a killer mashine, whereas vanes is a boxer who gets hit a lot. Vic walks though his opponents’ punches like an elephant being poked by sticks. I don’t see vanes being titlist anytime soon. If he does, then he’ll surprise me for good.
This is the third I’ve seen him fight and he still seems rough around the edges. He should improve and makes a good undercard fighter.
No……..he is boring……..
