Pound for pound king Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao along with three-time “Trainer of the Year” Freddie Roach and Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum hosted a media workout today at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, Calif.
“Training is going well for Manny I am really happy with the results,” stated Freddie Roach. “We have been sparring for seventeen three minute rounds, Manny is taking this fight really seriously.”
Manny Pacquiao started his workout by hitting the pads along side Freddie Roach’s new assistant trainer Michael Moorer, former heavyweight champion. Moorer is best remembered for his battle against “Big” George Foreman in Nov. 1994.
Pacquiao didn’t spar but his sparring partner Raymond Serrano of Philadelphia (9-0 5KO’s) was able to address the media.
“I was selected to be Manny’s sparring partner because my style is similar to Hatton’s. I have been studying Ricky Hatton’s strategies for some time now,” stated the 19-year-old welterweight (147 lbs). “Pacquiao is fast and hits hard, no questions asked Manny will be victorious.”
The Filipino icon continued his workout by hitting the punching bag followed by the double end bags and speed bag.
“I know Hatton is going to be coming forward and we’re ready, we have the right plan,” Pacquiao stated. “We’re going to avoid the ropes and we’re going to fight in the center of ring.”
“Training is going well, I can’t wait to get in the ring, this fight is for all my people. We’re planning to be in Las Vegas by April 27.”
Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs), from General Santos City, Philippines, and World Junior Welterweight Champion Ricky “Hitman” Hatton, (45-1, 32 KOs), from Manchester, England, collide in “The Battle of East and West”, Saturday, May 2, at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nev. The bout is schedule for 12 rounds for Hatton’s IBO and Ring Magazine World Junior Welterweight titles.
