According to DominicanosHoy.com, an internet portal based out of the Dominican Republic, the proposed bour beating undefeated Joan Guzman and the Russian Yuri Romanov for the vacant IBF lightweight title has been cancelled. The bout which no date or venue was scheduled for was cancelled “due to administrative and legal issues.”
According to a high confidential missive received by the internet site, the principal cause for the cancellation was “the sanction placed against Guzman on September 12th of last year.”
The IBF informed that the Mississippi State Athletic Commission sanctioned Guzman for not making the weight for his bout against Nate Campbell but also for not even attempting to climb into the ring even if it wasn’t for the title.
Although a medical exam was administered on Guzman hours before his proposed bout versus Campbell last September 13th which found that Guzman “had suffered severe dehydration and was very weak and in no shape to fight,” the results had to effect on the commission and their decision.
Guzman stated the he is continuing to train in New York City but will take a short break for word on his next bout.
