Former light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson lost a lopsided decision over middleweight titlist Lucian Bute on Nov. 5. He said after the fight that he had injured his right elbow during the bout, which Bute won on a near shutout decision.
Glen Johnson said Wednesday that he will have surgery to repair torn ligaments in both elbows in January. Johnson said his elbows have given him problems for years.
“I’m having both elbows done at the same time in January and they say I’ll need about three months of therapy, and then I’ll be back in action,” Johnson said. “It’s just been during the course of my career, but I guess (the ligaments) just finally broke off.”
Johnson, who turns 43 next month plans to resume his career later in 2012.
