The 31 year old middleweight from Kazakhstan is nicknamed Triple G (GGG) and is currently the hottest and scariest man in boxing. Fresh off a 3rd round knockout of Irishman Matthew Macklin this past Saturday, Golovkin improves to 27-0 with 24 KO’s. He currently has the highest knockout percentage among all active title holders at nearly 89 percent and has not went the distance in a fight since 2008.
Golovkin destroyed a tough fighter in Macklin with a left hook to the liver which straight folded the over matched Macklin who never had a chance. Golovkin noticably moved him around the ring with every shot he threw and Macklin, who has been in with tough fighters including P4P lister Sergio Martinez, said Golovkin is the best fighter he has faced. Macklin was fairly even in a fight last year with Martinez before being stopped in the 11th round so he is no slouch.
Subsequently, don’t look for anyone to be rushing to the bar for a shot of GGG. Joking aside, that shot is too strong for any middleweight out there, including Sergio Martinez and Chavez Jr. No matter what bigger household name he fights, my money is on Golovkin. He is straight scary, an what’s even better is despite his talent and excitement, the guy is humble and very likeable. His chin has yet to be tested, but who out there can do it and stay off the canvas at the same time?
Triple G is simply too strong right now and nobody has proven they can handle a shot of it. Who do you think will be next, and do they have a shot (no pun intended)?
GGG is a very talented fighter, but to say that Martinez wants no part of him is a bold statement considering Martinez’ situation right now. His focus is to get healthy have a warm-up fight and by next Fall fight GGG. I believe Martinez to be a fighting champion and will fight this fight.
Great article! Tripple G shots all around!
