gennady-golovkinThis past weekend, once again, I like many others, found myself shaking my head at how dominate Gennady Golovkin has been over the past couple years. A fighter that has continued his stoppage streak to almost seven straight years, once again proved his inevitable place at on top of the Middleweight class.

Is his hype, all what it is cracked up to be? At this point in his career, yes. He has simply dominated his opponents that he has faced and while he has not cracked the big names in the Middleweight class, it’s not because he doesn’t want to face them. Simply, what big name is actually willing to look as bad as Golovkin’s past opponents have?

Oscar De La Hoya went on twitter claiming his fighter “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin can beat the heavy handed Golovkin and Quillin is the most legitimate Middleweight there is that could make a fight interesting. However, is Quillin ready for that fight? If the money is right, sure. Stage the fight in Brooklyn or Madison Square Garden and it’s hard to imagine that either venues not being close to sold out. Alas, Quillin is already scheduled to fight in the Mayweather undercard against Andy Lee, so a GGG fight would not even be considered until early 2015 at the earliest. Golovkin is by far one of the most active champion fighters in the game today, by then he’ll already have 2 more fights under his belt.

Yet, some say GGG is not a PPV draw. Ok,Then get him a fight out on the west coast, perhaps against a Marco Antonio Rubio or a Matt Korobov, get the west coast a little more familiar with him and then a Cotto or Chavez Jr fight, if JCC can make 160 again. If not, then my vote is for a catch weight fight with Carl Froch at 163lb. GGG at this point should only be fighting the big names in his division.
Golovkin has earned fight fans admiration and respect. He now deserves the title of undisputed Middleweight champion of the world.

And then…

September 6th fight card Goldenboy is putting on in Cincinnatti is actually a decent card. Broner, Lucas Matthysse and Andre Berto should make for some exciting fights, regardless of how long they actually last. Both Broner and Matthysse are facing competition that should make both look good in front of the live Cincy crowd. Hopefully the card means a Broner-Matthysse match up later this year or early next year.

Rapper Nelly was on ESPN Dan Le Batard’s highly questionable earlier this week and had some choice words for P4P king Floyd Mayweather. Jump to the 3:10 mark.

Odds on who has a diss song about Mayweather first? T.I., Nelly or 50 cent?
