His first book was – OUTSTANDING. Now, his second book leaves me breathless, and I will say that it is also – OUTSTANDING!

Gene Aguilera’s publication of his newest book “LATINO BOXING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA” is now official, and it has been released to the general public. This book is a must for all boxing fans and is a great read for all that have grown up in the Southern California area and have visited such legendary boxing venues as the Olympic Auditorium, Hollywood Legion Stadium, the Los Angeles Sports Arena, and the Forum.

Gene does an excellent job covering the historical landscape of boxing from the 1900’s to 2000’s. Each chapter is unique and puts into perspective, chronologically, those eras. His first book by Arcadia Publishing, “MEXICAN AMERICAN BOXING IN LOS ANGELES”, covered such local fighters as Enrique Bolanos, Art Aragon, Mando Ramos, Carlos Palomino, Bobby Chacon, Danny “Little Red” Lopez, all the way to Oscar De La Hoya. Aguilera’s new book, though, covers more of the great boxers from South of the Border such as as Vicente Saldivar, Jose Becerra, Ruben Olivares, Carlos Zarate, Pipino Cuevas, Lupe Pintor, Salvador Sanchez, and Julio Cesar Chavez.

Gene is a master in his work and knowns boxing since his childhood days growing up in the area of greater Los Angeles, the City of the Angels, where he frequented the Olympic Auditorium and the Main St. Gym. He is a 1976 graduate of the University of Southern California, a songwriter, and East L.A. music historian. Married and proud father of three daughters, Gene works as a bank vice president.

Arcadia Publishing kindly sent me a complimentary copy of Gene’s book last month. What first captured my eyes was the array of colorful photos of the boxers, fight posters, programs and magazines. I have seen many boxing publications in my almost sixty years of involvement in the sport and Gene’s past two books simply stand at the top, the very top.

The book would be an excellent gift for any boxing fan you may know (and also the perfect gift for birthdays and Christmas time!) and can be purchased for $22.99 (plus shipping and handling) by contacting Gene at [email protected], [email protected], by personal Messenger (through Facebook), or by calling him at 323-697-7197. The book can also be purchased through Amazon, eBay, Arcadia Publishing, and local bookstores such as Barnes & Noble.

Thank you, and on behalf of dmboxing.com, I fully endorse author Gene Aguilera and his OUTSTANDING publications.
