WBO jr. flyweight champion Ramon “Principe” Garcia-Hirales of La Paz, Mexico, and his challenger Donnie Nietes of the Philippines met face to face earlier this week at the Fisher Hotel in the city of Bacolod, Philippines for their face off this Saturday, October 8th, slated for St.La Salle University Gymnasium of the afore mentioned city. The twelve round championship bout will be televised in Mexico by the Azteca channel in conjunction with the Jackie Nava-Soledad Matthysse face off from Tijuana, Mexico.

The 29-year-old Garcia-Hirales (16-2-1, 9KOs), who is promoted by Zanfer Promotions, diplayed his confidence at the press conference, “Nietes is an ex champion and a good fighter. I have respect for his career. He has traveled to Mexico and beaten Mexicans there. Now it is me who has come to the Philippines to beat him. I came to the Philippines to win. I will return to Mexico with my belt.”

Nietes (28-1-3, 16KOs), also 29 years old, mentioned that he was in perfect condition to capture his second world title, “I have trained very well and I have experience against Mexican fighters. All of them are great warriors. I have a lot of respect for Mexican boxing and I like the people of Mexico. The times I have visited they have treated me well. I feel bad for Ramon but on Saturday I must beat him because I want to be a world champion once again.”

Nietes was the strawweight champion from September 2007 and he defended his title four times, three times in Mexico. He vacated the title to go up to the jr. flyweight division.
