The last time Ponce De Leon (41-3, 34 KOs) came to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Juan Manuel Lopez knocked out the strong Mexican in the first round. Ponce De Leon returns there Saturday night to challenge Gamboa (20-0, 16 KOs), the Cuban star who was supposed to oppose Lopez by 2012 in a featherweight fight. Orlando Salido (36-11-2, 24 KOs, 1 NC) upset Lopez (30-1, 27 KOs) by eighth-round TKO, though, so Ponce De Leon’s getting another shot at an undefeated fighter. The 12-round Gamboa-Ponce De Leon bout will be broadcast by HBO, following a replay of the Vitali Klitschko-Tomasz Adamek heavyweight title fight at 10:30.
