It’s 3 pm eastern standard time Saturday July 21st.

Hotel room. Booked. 7 hour drive. Done.

Main event of the scheduled HBO Boxing after dark between Adrien Broner and Vicente Escobedo still on? Nope.

Yesterday at the official weigh-in Broner failed to make the scheduled 130lb weight limit against Escobedo. Broner and Escobedo’s camp came to an agreement that Broner would not come over 140lb this morning at 9:30am. However as the rest of the boxing nation found out, Broner failed to once again make the weigh that was agreed upon.

Thus giving Escobedo no choice but to walk away from the fight.(maybe) Along the way leaving many fans that have came to Cincinnati with little choice of what to do. Many fight fans have taken to twitter to voice their displeasure and frustration that Goldenboy and HBO have not said a word about the fight other than what other respected boxing journalists are getting from the fight camps.

The hilarity of this mess is that even as I write this, the possibility of the fight still going on is always changing. It’s 3:30 now. For myself, who is covering the fight for myboxingfans.com, I am still going.

The fighters that made weight deserve the respect of myself and every other boxing fan that was planning on going in the first place. While the card is not what it may have been it doesn’t meat still can’t be a great night of boxing. Keith Thurman, Orlando Lora, Omar Figueroa, Dominic Salcido, Brandon Bennett, John Nater and the rest of the fight card fighters deserve the fans support.

And who knows. The main event still may be Broner-Escobedo.
