Fernando Vargas (26-5, 22Kos) is thinking of returning to the ring to settle an argument against Hector Camacho Jr. (49-3-1, 27KO’s), Camacho and Vargas exchanged words last week in Ohio during Camacho’s fight against Israel Cardona.

This picture was taken by Gary Sarti last week and as you can see Fernando Vargas is not in great shape, he currently weights 200-pounds or more.

BoxingScene adviced that the fight would take place at 175-pounds in 2010. Vargas last fought at 164-pounds in December 2007 and lost a twelve round decision to Ricardo Mayorga. Camacho Jr. has now won eight fights in a row and was fighting at his lowest weight since 2006. His goal is to get down to welterweight for his next fight against ex-champion Yory Boy Campas on October 31.

What’s your opinion, should Vargas come out of retirement?

  1. It is obvious that Vargas cannot compete at the elite level. His fight with Mayorga was the most boring fight I’ve ever seen. Maybe he can work as De La Hoya’s body guard ???

  2. He always looked impressive at the press conferences and talked a good game. I wish him well. I guess it was the Mayorga and Trinidad fights that spoiled it for me.. Think bigger something other than the past would be my advice..

  3. I think Fernando Vargas would beat Hector Camacho Jr., the only way Camacho would win is if he boxes and runs, if he stands toe to toe with Vargas it will be an early night, so if the fight does go on i’d say Vargas would win within 4rds 6 tops.

  4. Fernando must weight about 220lbs. I don’t believe he’ll be close nor nearly effective a fighter now than he was vs Mayorga. I have no grips him making a living but… in his case I feel returning for any extended time will eventually result in health issues. It’s not just the actual fights that take their toll, but also the sparring in preparation for the fights and weight loss that will also have a possible lasting negative effect. I’m not too fond of the idea.. AT ALL!
