Last time I saw the former world champ “Ferocious” Fernando Vargas in the ring was in November 2007 when he lost against Ricardo Mayorga from Nicaragua. I told myself after Vargas announced his retirement that he will be back. Sure enough Fernando Vargas was back in the ring this past weekend, but he wasn’t fighting, he was dancing along side the Mariachis.
The “Ferocious” from Oxnard, CA was a special guest on Saturday’s fight card that took place at the Buffalo Bill’s Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nev. The former world champ, more than a few pounds over his old fighting weight, danced a few steps to mariachi music before signing autographs. V.E.P (Vargas Entertainment Promotions) has done what other boxing promoters won’t dare do, V.E.P offered a night of boxing and MMA in the same ring. He offered four bouts of boxing and three MMA matches. If that wasn’t enough, Buffalo Bill’s opened Fernando Vargas his own club, you heard me right, they gave him his own club at the Buffalo Bill’s, “Club Feroz”.
We can’t hate him for that but mixing boxing and MMA in the same ring, now that’s a different story.
