Fernando Montiel Schedule to Fight on Saturday, August 20

This Saturday, August 20, 2011 former bantamweight titlist Fernando Montiel (45-3-2, 35 KOs) will taking on Alvaro Perez (18-3-1, 9 KOs) of Nicaragua in a 10-rounder. The fight will be held at La Cetto Vineyard in Ensenada, Baja, Mexico.

This will be the second bout at junior featherweight since loosing his belts to Nonito Donaire with a dramatic second round knockout. Since then Montiel knocked out Nehomar Cermeno in three rounds in June. Now he will take on Perez, 28, a former world title contender in his last bout, Perez won a six-round decision over Danny Erazo.

Montiel is rated No. 4 by the WBC and No. 3 by the WBA, or as a super bantamweight, where he is rated No. 2 by the WBO. The fight will be broadcast by Fox Deportes/FSN and Top Rank Live. Philadelphia junior featherweight prospect Teon Kennedy (17-0-1, 7 KOs) will face Mexico’s Alejandro Lopez (21-2, 17 KOs) in the 12-round main event.

  1. I wonder why the Top Rank Live was cancelled I was looking forward to this fight. I still like Montiel as well I think he is far from done. He was knocked out ugly, yes but I think the guy still has some left in him.

  2. I still like the kid, yes he got knocked the F-out! But it was a clean shot. It happens. You have to remember he was in a motorcycle accident prior to his fight.. Not trying to find excuses but his still a good fighter.

  3. after his 2nd rnd brutal defeat to Nonito, I already lost interest in seeing any future fight of Montiel. He is damaged, plain and simple.
