The President of Zanfer Promotions, Fernando Beltran of Tijuana, stated that one of their biggest goals for the first quarter of 2010 is to reduce the punishment Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. shall receive from the Nevada State Athletic Comission for coming out positive in his last bout on November 13th.
“We are going to be free of that problem. We hope that the suspension only lasts two or three months so that it doesn’t interrumpt his career,” Beltran stated yesterday in Mexico City. “This will not tarnish his image. It was a diuretic, something he didn’t know about. He took it so that he could make weight and be responsible.”
Beltran was the host in Mexico City for the press conference officially announcing the WBO super flyweight bout between Jorge “Travieso” Arce and Anky Angkota of Indonesia. The bout will be held in Mexico City after it was originally announced that it was going to be held in nearby Toluca, MX, on January 30th marking the first Zanfer Promotions fight card of the year.
Arce mentioned that if he loses, this will be his last fight as a professional.
“Every promoter would love to have a fighter like Arce in his stable. He is charismatic and talented and now he has the opportunity to earn another title,” Beltran stated.
It was also announced that on the same fight card, jackie “Aztec Princess” Nava will face off against Shantal Martinez of Panama for the vacant female WBC featherweight title. Beltran also mentioned that Antonio Margarito might make his return on March 13th in Dallas and that Jose “Coloradito” Solis would fight Likar Ramos for the interim WBA super featherweight title on February 6th.
