According to the web potal DominicanosHoy.com, a bout between the current WBO and WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez and the newly crowned WBC champ Edwin Valero is an inevitability.
Valero was awarded the coveted green belt with an annihilation of the Columbian Antonio Pitalua in 49 seconds of the second round ten days ago in Austin, TX, as part of Golden Boy Promotions “Lightweight Lightning.”
Valero who is not familiar with the bitter taste of defeat in twenty five professional bouts, all of them ending by knockout and eighteen of them in the first round.
Valero turned professional as a super featherweight but after winning the crown decided to pursue greatness five pounds north in the 135 lbs.
division since he couldn’t find any suitable rivals at 130 pounds.
Minutes after Valero destroyed Pitalua he stated that his mission would be to become the undisputed king of the lightweights. Besides that, he mentioned that he had his sights set on Juan Manuel Marquez who he holds in high regard even going as far as calling him “the best lightweight in the world.”
Despite of Valero’s willingness to go after Marquez, the camp of the Aztec warrior is in no hurry to face off against the undefeated Venezuelan beast.
