With a commitment of a five-year contract with Don king Promotions the 16-year veteran and seven-time world champion in three different weight classes Marco Antonio Barrera continues to give back to the boxing community. Marco Antonio Barrera has signed as a commentator for a weekly boxing program called ESPN Deportes “Golpe A Golpe” which is set to debut Friday, January 23 at 8 p.m. ET. “Golpe a Golpe” will be ESPN Deportes’ first news and analysis show fully dedicated to the world of boxing. The live 30-minute program will be co-hosted by Sport Center anchor Jorge Eduardo Sanchez and Marco Antonio Barrera.

“I am so happy that I was selected to be part of this. It means a lot to me. Is a way to give back to the people, I hope with my experience I will give the audience a better view of the sport.”

In addition to ESPN Friday Night Fights and ESPN Classic Fight Night, ESPN Deportes is a cable television channel for the U.S spanish language sport fan. ESPN Deportes is available on many cable systems including Comcast, Cox Communications, and Brighthouse Networks, as well as on Dish Network and DirecTV.

Marco Antonio Barrera did confess he did have doubts at first about being a commentator and is still nervous.

“It is not the same being in the ring and being a commentator,” stated the champ.

“I had no Idea I will be doing this, but I am ready.”

One might ask how this will affect his boxing career, not to mention his upcoming fight at the end of the month with his debut airing a week before.

“It will not effect my career, ESPN and I have reached an agreement that will allow me to skip an episode when needed.”marco-01

How would this benefit Barrera’s boxing career?

“I think this will help me in the ring as well, as I will be analyzing the fights and getting pointers here and there.”

A sports commentator must have the ability to be neutral and not choose sides, what if Marco Antonio Barrera needs to analyze a previous opponent or a rival such as Erik Morales?

“I have no rivalry with Erik Morales, I am going to be professional at all times and I will not choose any sides, I will call it as I see it.”

Barrera is a family man, boxer and boxing promoter, how can one pledge to such a commitment?

“My brother will be handling the boxers we currently promote. This shouldn’t effect my personal life, I am definitely looking forward to this and I will not let anyone down.”
