As I am driving to the Staple Center this past Saturday to see the Victor Ortiz fight along side my partner in crime Felipe Leon, we discussed and predicted the outcome of the fight. I personally thought the fight was going to be boring and that Ortiz will win in the first three rounds and with the recent cancellation of Chris John vs. Rocky Juarez, to be completely honest I wasn’t planning to attend since that’s the fight I was hoping to see.
But after seeing Victor Ortiz fight I was glad I did attend though he lost, I was impressed by the way he fought, no questions he will need to work on his defense. I think he will make a dent in boxing, he’s on the right path.
After publishing the Ortiz vs. Maidana results many of you commented and felt Victor Ortiz quit after getting up from tasting the canvas for the second time.
Sitting at ringside I clearly saw he didn’t want to continue either, yes its kind of embarrassing and disappointing at the same time knowing you were winning the fight and you quit the fight but after seeing Ortiz up close in person I can’t blame Ortiz for doing what he did. His left eye was closed and the cut above his right eye was DEEP. With blood dripping into your eye and with one eye shut, it would have been suicide to continue fighting.
Let’s give this young kid a break and if he quits again I will be the first to talk shit.
Big Boy and Tattoo from Power 106 were at the post fight, Big Boy looks different than I I had in mind but he’s cool.
I am glad Max Kellerman called the action for HBO’s Boxing After Dark, I think he’s one of the best commentators right now. I guess I have been living under a rock, did you know Max Kellerman older brother was murdered by a boxer?
