De la Hoya Compares Marquez to Chavez!

Future Hall of Famer Oscar De La Hoya expects the bout slated for September 19th between Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather jr. to break PPV records but he also expects for Marquez to achieves a victory that can only be compared to the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez.

“We will have to see what the future holds for Juan Manuel if he wins this fight, a lot of fighters will want to fight him,” De La Hoya stated, who considers Marquez one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world.

“What I do know is that once Marquez wins this fight, he can be mentioned along with great Mexican fighters such as Julio Cesar Chavez so this fight is very important for him,” the 1992 Barcelona Olympics gold medalist added.  “We will see what happens after this fight.”

De La Hoya confirmed that the fight will be televised through out the United States as well as 160 other countries in the world on PPV, where he expects new records.

“I don’t like to talk much but we will continue the same work that we have been doing for the lat 5 months,” Marquez stated.  “I think it will be difficult to knock him out because of his defense, we are going to try and give it my all.  You all know that I like to leave it all in the ring.

  2. I think Oscar feels reinvigorated, he feels strong, he feels charged lol
    Marquez is the best Mexican fighter at this moment, but I’m not sure if you can compare him with Chavez yet, maybe if he KO’s Mayweather in the last seconds of the 12, who knows, he maybe right! hehe

  3. No matter what Jay Marquez will go down in history as great fighter.
    Lets not forget he’s a three division Champion world tittles that enough for him too be inducted already.

    As for Dela Hoya…..I don’t know what in the hell he’s talking about.
    If you notice sometime during the press conference he makes no sense sometimes.

    Too be honest I think Pacquaio must have knocked out some of the sense out of him….LOL

  4. You know, if he does win he has to be in the category of all time great Mexican fighters. Chavez? I don’t know about that but all time for sure. Lets see what happens, this will be the next big night in boxing.
