After yesterday’s announcement that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be fighting “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14th at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Top Rank is moving the pay-per-view WBO welterweight clash between Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez which was also scheduled for the same day at the Thomas & Mack Center to October 12th.

A smart move by Bob Arum, you don’t want to go against a mega fight like Mayweather-“Canelo”.

Marquez will be looking to continue his late-career resurgence by trying to become the first boxer from Mexico to win world titles in five different weight classes. I give Bradley props for taking on Marquez after his brutal knockout of Manny Pacquaio. I just don’t think Bradley has what it takes to beat a veteran like Marquez but then again, its boxing, anything can happen.

Word is that negotiations have begun between WBC/WBA Jr welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KOs) and WBC interim champion Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KOs) to take place on September 7 in Las Vegas a week before the Floyd vs. Canelo fight.

  1. Forget about the Mayweather/Alvarez money miss-match, this is fight that should have fans really excited ! Great match-up !

  2. My money is on Marquez!! In my very own opinion he won two of the first three fights with Pacqueao before he knocked him out in the IV. The only reason why we have this fight is because of Bradley’s victory over Pacqueao and we all know that was a ridiculous mistake. The only thing is their age… I just hope Marquez still has what he has shown us all these years..
