Danny Garcia vs Lucas Matthysse was the fight most boxing fans wanted to see and like many predicted, including me, it was expected Matthysse to knock Garcia out. But on Saturday night Garcia proved everyone wrong.
Garcia (27-0, 16 KOs), 25, of Philadelphia, put on an amazing performance against “The Machine.” Matthysse dominated early but once his right eye nearly swelled closed in the seventh round, the fight changed and Garcia was in command. Danny Garcia knocked Lucas Matthysse down for the first time in his career in the 11th round on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
Matthysse did land a beautiful punch that knocked Garcia’s mouthpiece out in the 11th round but Garcia took it like a man and didn’t even flitch.
Before the fight I said that if Garcia beats Matthysse, I would give Garcia the respect he deserved as a champ but is hard to like Garcia because of his father.
Angel Garcia, father and trainer of Danny, is probably the reason why I didn’t like Danny. His father is so annoying and talks so much crap that it’s not funny, its annoying.
For example, when Ricardo Mayorga talks crap, its funny and it’s entertaining but Angel goes overboard.
He swears he knows everything and praises the Lord but yet makes racial remarks. When Danny Garcia was fighting Amir Khan his father kept making unsavory comments about Khan’s Pakistani heritage.
In every video Angel is talking crap and at every press conference Angel is always trying to fight Danny’s opponents but don’t take my word, watch these videos and make your own judgment.
